I'm Moving To Wisconsin!!

Finally, I can explain why I've been a little anti-social in blog land lately. We are moving to Wisconsin next month and I wasn't absolutely sure of it until today. My husbands work is re-locating us. So from Georgia to Wisconsin here we come!! In the next four weeks I will doing the Art Festival, packing my house, looking for a house and registering my girls in a new school. Lot's to do(O:

I will be checking in every now and then but will be back in Blogland once I'm settled sometime in November. Once we are settled in our new home I plan to get my Pen-tastic Portrait business going strong. Until next time.............

Thanks to the help and inspiration of my blog friends I've decided to start a new blog "Pen-tastic Portraits" dedicated to my Custom Portraits. The time has come where I need to kick start the business side of being an artist and try to start making a living. I thought this new blog would be a more direct source for my followers and client to view my latest Pen-tastic Portraits.

I want to thank everyone for such amazing encouragement with my Portraits!! Literally all I did yesterday was work on John Lennon and I finished him at about 11:00 last night. I would love to have a collection of these for the art festival & of course this had to be a last minute thought so I certainly have my work cut out for me. I just couldn't put my pens down, here it is. I wanted to show you the before and after.
When I look at a photo, I look at the shadows. Instead of trying to draw the faces I focus more on the shadows so each shadow can be blocked of as if it were a mosaic. I mark a light X in the ares that are black because the black areas are important as they give the images their shape. Once I draw out the image I look and my new handy dandy book of patterns (that I will continue to add to THANKS to Eden for inspiring me!!) and decide on 3 or 4 different patterns to use throughout the portrait. This way I find the portrait flows better and is more visually pleasing. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE detail and busy, intricate designs so this allows me to do that without overwhelming the piece. When I choose the patterns I want to use I put them in order from dark to light and then begin filling in the shadows accordingly. I've decided I like the way lips look with the stipple effect because the shading on lips really brings the portrait to life. The eyes as well only I like to use my flowers usually around the pupil. The last thing I like to do is take a pencil and do some light shading withing some of the patterns. I find that this adds contour where it's needed.

There you have it "My Personal Process" of creating these portraits. I'm trying to think of a name for the kind of portraits I'm doing. I would love to market myself as a custom portrait designer and I need a really cool catchy name. I'm a starving artist and I really want to jump start this. Any suggestions on a name for this type of portrait?

"Keeping Track Of My Doodle Designs"

I've decided to document my patterns in a journal so I can have them to refer back to. Some will be my own designs and some will be patterns I've seen around the world. I'm not sure why I've not done this before but I think it will be such a helpful tool to have. I have a few photos above of the first few patterns that have been officially documented and also photos of my completed portraits. I did add the black in the background to my family portrait and I'm happy I did. I do believe it pops off the page having that contrast.

I feel like I've been a million miles away. I promise to reconnect with all my blog friends once the October Art Festival is over. I'm just nervous because it's my first one. I've had Art Shows every year for years but they have always been held in my home where it doesn't rain. I've never displayed at a festival. The only difference really is that I may have weather to deal with which is the one thing that makes me nervous. Any who...sorry to babble!! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend(O:

Here is a photo of my family portrait that I've been working on for the past few days. I think I'll make the background solid black so the portrait will pop. I'm not sure if I have it in me but I would love to Zentangle each letter in the alphabet. That may be a project in my future(O: Happy Monday!!

"Mary Jane"

Here's a look at "Mary Jane". I just have a few areas to fill before she's complete. The pens I'm using for these black and white pieces are Micron Archival Ink 005, Micron Archival Ink 01, Black Sharpies both fine and regular tips and Sanford uni-ball fine tip pens. My favorite pen is the Micron 005 because the tip is so fine, it's perfect for those tiny detailed Zentangles.

The last photo here is the finished piece from yesterday.

After following the progress of Julie's family portraits from My Good Babushka, she has been such an inspiration to me I've decided to do a family portrait of my own. I plan to do mine in black and white with Zentangles galore. If you haven't seen Julies blog you much check it out. She has so much talent, I look at Julies paintings and think of the master's!!

I've been feeling a little overwhelmed lately, there is just so much going on right now!! Between my Art show, the girls at school = lot's of homework, soccer practices, music lessons, teaching art classes and a few other things I'm sure I'll mention soon, I feel a little "stressed".

Did you know that "STRESSED" spelled backwards is DESSERTS(o: I'm going to take a few days to get things in order. Maybe I'll have a few cups of tea and some sweet "DESSERTS" to calm me down as well. I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend!! I'll be back on Tuesday(O:

These new products will also be displayed in my tent next month in the "Historic Norcross Art's Festival". I still have to figure out how I'm going to hang my paintings. I'm thinking maybe lattice? I have added some color and a few patterns are beginning to form. I too like the black and white as it was and may do my next one just black and white. I just can't seem to help myself here with the colors and details. It just seems unfinished until I go to town on my pieces. I know I go overboard most of the time but I guess that's what makes it mine. I look at artists that can create the most simple and beautiful images and sometimes I really wish I could do that every now and then. If I were to put it on my wall as a black and white piece it would at least have to have zentangles inside the white areas or it would bother me. I'm just a crazy woman who's all about detail(O:

"Frida Kahlo" Stage 1

I spent the morning yesterday searching for photos of Frida Kahlo. There are so many of the most beautiful photos of her, it almost makes me want to fill this entire journal with paintings of Frida Kahlo. I will start with this one and see where it goes.

Once I chose the photo I began by sketching out the image with pencil. Once I got the general image I then I blocked off all the possible shadows in the photo with black ink. So I have here a mosaic-like drawing of Frida. Now that the shapes are there I will begin using color and patterns to fill in the shadows.

Frida & First Day of School

Wow, is it quiet around here!! I've been up since 5:15 making lunches, toasting bagels and braiding hair. I cannot believe my girls are off to school!! We live in GA but I am originally from Boston and we never used to go back to school until after Labor Day. This always seems so soon but they have been out since the end of May and were ready to go back! They were so excited this morning and popped right out of bed. I remember that feeling, it's always nice to start a fresh year of school with new shoes and school supplies. We had a wonderful summer but now it's time to get back into a routine again.
On another note I finished my Frida Sketch. This was a fun piece to work on and while I was doing it I realized what my new project is going to be. A few weeks ago I ordered an enormous Moleskin 12" X 16" that arrived over the weekend. These pages are huge... especially if I use both pages in a two page spread that would make it 24" X 32". It's incredible! It will definitely take me longer to do each page now that I will be working on a bigger scale.
What I'm planning to do is to transform some of the Master's famous Paintings or even photographic portraits of them and turning them into new pieces of art using my daisydolls technique of creating shadows with patterns. I plan to do this by combining collage and hand drawn patterns. After doing this quick sketch/doodle of Frida it's really made me want to dive in and do my first piece in my new HUGE Moleskin Art Journal of one of Frida Kahlo's amazing photographic portraits. Stay tuned, I will photograph as I work and keep the progress reports coming. I'm excited and cannot wait to start!!

I've always liked Red & Black together and this was another way for me to doodle within the features of a lady's face. This is definitely one of my favorite things to do!

New Journal Page & Rectangular Trays in Progress

I finished this journal page and thought it would make a wonderful bottom to a tray. I found these small rectangular plastic trays and began by covering them with Gesso. Then I painted some pretty colors around the edges and glued a copy of my journal page on the the bottom. Lastly I took some of those glass nuggets and embellished the outer edges of the trays with a tile adhesive. I still have a few more steps. Today I will be spray painting the back side with a bronze colored spray paint and then I will fill the bottom of the trays with a two art resin to protect the image and secure the glass nuggets. The resin and the glass nuggets add weight and richness to a plain old plastic tray. I think they will be a nice addition to my display for the Art Festival in October. I will post more photos of each individual tray once they are finished. they have the same image on the floor of the tray but each one has been painted and embellished a little differently.

"Peace Maker"

As I was creating this journal page I had nothing in particular in mind. All I knew was that my friend Terri gave away a freebie image the other day that struck me. This image has so many possibilities and I may even have another go with her. She turned out to be posing as a woman who grew up being the middle child. It's funny when ever I have spoken to someone who also grew up being a middle child there have always been so many similarities. Personally I loved being the middle child and I wouldn't have had it any other way. I'm not sure I'm the person I am today because that is simply my personality or because of the middle child duties of keeping the peace between siblings, friends etc... that molded me that way. Anyway, I love this image and I thank Terri for giving it away, I really had a lot of fun with this piece!!

"Zentangles On Faces"

I can get lost in my own world when I am doing Zentangles. This is a magazine image that I distressed before creating the Zentangles. The open gaps of green to the right will eventually be filled in with text. They are waiting for the moment when I have the perfect thing to write. I am trying to offer a variety of projects where we will be using magazine images so my student will always have this option if the drawing part makes them nervous. I believe that Art Journals should be full of freedom and if someone is nervous about being able to draw a certain image it's nice for them to know that clipped images are just as acceptable. This should be a stress free & fun way for them to express themselves creatively! It's fun to see how you can transform an image as well, who knows what can come of a simple face.

What better way to follow my Butterfly pages than to paint a caterpillar. I also decided to do a little cross stitching along the edges of the right page to create a textured border. I found this image in a magazine of a beaded bracelet that swirled around like a caterpillar and thought hmmmm that would be cool to transform this bracelet into a caterpillar!! Well..... I did just that and here she is(O:

"It's Raining Daisies"

It's not really raining here, I wish it would though because we could use a little moisture around here! I did have a dream that it was raining daisies a few weeks ago which prompted this page. I think I may have drifted into Alice's Wonderland or something?!(O: I have never been much of a writer but the visual stuff can get a little out there in my head. I created this page by painting a textured background in grays and whites. Then I used my hand carved lady stamp and I drew an umbrella above her head. Next I added the daisies mixed in with the raindrops over the entire page. The daisies are done at first with a stamp I found in my girls stamp set. I think I may have to hold onto that one, it's perfect for all my daisy things!! After I finished painting the colors inside the daisy stamps I decided to use some of the letters from my Funky Font Postcards and cut them out to create the wording at the top. This was a fun page and it will never let me forget that lovely dream I had a few weeks ago. Have an imaginative day everyone!!

"Sketchbook Collage"

I decided to make a collage of photos from all the pages of my sketchbook project 2011. I used a piece of ply wood 2 feet wide and 4 feet long, so it's quite a large piece. I created it as a conversation piece for my home as well as something to remember my sketchbook project 2011. Every image between the covers of my sketchbook are within this collage. Some of the images are of the two page spread and some are of each individual page so many images actually appear twice. This was a lot of fun and a very carefree project I worked on over the weekend. Have a happy Monday everyone!

"Practical Journal Pages"

In my Art Journals I always like to squeeze in a page here and there with images I can use to create fun things with. I like to call them my "Practical Journal Pages". Sometimes my journal pages can be turned into prints as well especially when the text is suitable. To make a living as an artist is tricky for me, I have the name starving artist written across my forehead. Not only do I find it extremely difficult to sell my own work, I also have zero business sense. It literally doesn't jive with my brain and it sucks the fun right out of my art. When I am painting, I can work towards an art show or work to have them displayed in a gallery but that usually leads to one style and I like to try new things all the time. When I'm working in my art journal there is no pressure and I can really have fun with it. I am also a very practical person so creating practical items with a unique look to them is kind of what comes naturally for me. I am thankful for my Etsy Shop because it really allows me to make things available without having to do all the dirty work of going in and out of places trying to get them to love my work. Wouldn't it be nice is every artist had a sidekick manager to go out and do all that for them. That would be ideal because all I ever really want to do is create!! Teaching art is also something I really love to do. I get a huge amount of satisfaction out of teaching my students and then seeing what they produce from the techniques I've taught them. This is why Art Journaling is so amazing!!

This is a "Practical Journal Page" I created that I'm using to create some more fun and unique hair brushes. I used one of my funky fonts to do the lettering along the bottom of the page. The second photo shows some hair brushes and a few journal covers that are still in progress. I'm hoping these items will do well at the Art Festival I'm in, in October. I think they make wonderful gifts for people. Does anyone else make practical journal pages?

"Combining Handmade Stamps with Zentangles"

I am a person who absolutely loves color. I have also created many series in black and white by using Zentangles.

Zentangles - Paintings with patterns instead of painting with color.

My eyes are equally satisfied when the detail is there. Here are a few pages where I combined my new lady stamp and a few different Zentangles. I like to have a source to look back on with some different Zentangles to pick from so I made this page as a resource for my students to give them examples of a few different ones I doodled.

The photos at the end are of the postcards that are now available in my etsy shop. Rebecca's Funky Font postcards. These are great for cutting out the letters and using them on future journal pages. You get a pack of six cards (2 of each design) for $8.00 One side is glossy color and the other side is black and white.

"Stamp #2" carved from a BIG erasure

Thanks to Julie and a few other people who mentioned using an erasure to make a stamp, I love it!! It's much more effective than using the Sculpey!! I actually made a stamp from one of my drawings. Stay tuned for the project I have been working on as I used this stamp(O: Have a great day everyone!!

Watercolor Painting Over Magazine Image - Journal page

These few pages show a watercolor technique where I painted over the top of a magazine image. The photos above show my process. I found I had to layer the watercolors to get the effect I wanted. For the first few strokes of my brush the color actually wanted to repel off the page but as the page became saturated with moisture the colors began to adhere to the image. This is me on video for the first time on my blog....yikes!! It's kind of scary I have to admit! I was painfully shy as a child and have outgrown that for the most part but videoing yourself and seeing it is a little weird.... Please forgive the quality of this video. I guess I need a better camera to show all the detail of my work. I am just trying to experiment with some videos. If I can get the hang of it I may do some online tutorials in the future. "Making Your Own Stamps"

I made a new stamp over the weekend, my very first handmade stamp. After this handmade stamp was made I created a border around my two page journal spread. These photos show the process in making this stamp. I started by using some Sculpey clay I just happened to have in my studio. The only problem with using clay is that the stamp doesn't bend with the surface you are working on so I found myself pressing against the paper behind it with my hand to ensure the ink was leaving the stamp I intended it to. I will be experimenting with different material for making stamps and will share with you each time I do. Have a great day everyone!!

These photos show my process in creating these four journal pages. I was really happy with these. I don't know if it's the colors or their faces but these types of pages are pleasing to my eyes! In these pages I introduced a few different Art Journal techniques. The first one is the circle cut out which many of you have see me do in my last journal. I wanted to create a page like this to show my students. Immediately when I cut that hole the focus turns to all four pages instead of two. It's definitely more challenging and takes a little more planning. I also showed the way you can take piece of images from magazines and transform them into something totally different like the parasols I created from a flower and a random pattern I found in a magazine. Lastly I showed how the images on the different pages can be very different even when the faces are exactly the same.

This page makes me laugh a little. These quirky daisies in their bluejeans almost look as if their wearing shower caps(O: Minus the daisy hair, this is actually a typical day of fashion for me. I love to be in my bluejeans matched with my dresses from India and my red Maryjane's. I haven't quite finished these pages yet, I will be working on the writing today. I found an ad with all the photographed jeans and thought hmmmm I can do something with those!! Have a great day everyone!!

"Words In A Bubble"

I wanted to try a page in my journal using words in a bubble. I seriously think that drawing all those swirls around the bubble was incredibly meditative, I could have just kept on swirling. I had some music playing in the background and I was just swirling to the beat. It was a nice break a lot more fun than the cleaning streak I've been on lately. Have a great Thursday everyone!!

Also, I am in the middle of trying to reorganized my house before the girls go back to school so if I don't respond to some of your wonderful comments please know I am reading them I am just in the middle of piles of things to go through in my house. Some people spring clean......I always have to do a big clean out before school starts so we all feel organized around here. The good news is the little nook in the kitchen where I have been working for the past 4 weeks is no longer. Part of my big reorganization is literally turning my dining room into my studio / Art Journal Classroom. Ahhhh, it's no free standing Studio but it's certainly bigger than my nook in the kitchen & I'm still down stairs where everything is happening which allows me to play in my studio more. My girls are forever playing with me in the studio so I do feel very lucky to be creating almost everyday(O: They will never be able to say they weren't exposed to the Art's (maybe smothered.... just kidding). Good Monday morning everyone! This is a page in my Moleskin representing the way you can transform a simple photograph into and beautiful background. I showed a few photos here of the process. The stones were created out of a simple rectangular stamp that I made from an old wine cork and a piece of fun foam. I painted the stamp with a mixture of murky acrylic colors to match the photograph of the door and then I added a few flowers around the door and the border of these pages.

I am excited to have started my new Art Journal. I've heard so much about Moleskin Journals recently I'm not sure where I've been all these years. It seems to be just what I've been looking for. Why don't they carry them at Art Supply stores? I'm means isn't that where artists usually go to find a sketchbook.... My friend Jeanne told me to be sure and get the one with the lavender cover because that's the one with the thickest paper. It's amazing and so far has been able to hold paint, markers, sharpies, paint pens etc... Also I got it at Barnes & Noble for less than $20.00. The sketchbook they sent me for the Sketchbook project was actually a Moleskin so I guess officially that was my first one but the one they sent me was not the one with the lavender cover, that one have very thin pages. I actually had to glue three of them together each time to withhold all my goop(O:

So if anyone is in need of a new Art Journal for Mixed Media I strongly recommend the Moleskin Journal with the lavender cover(O:

These are the first two pages of my new Art Journal. My plan is to fill each two page spread with a different Art Journal Technique or tool that could be used for my class. I have decided to teach Art Journal classes after the new year so for the next few months I will be researching as much as I can and each new technique I learn or have learned in the past will be expressed by creating a two page spread with techniques. I will be holding my classes every week on Fridays and each Friday I will teach a new technique. All my students will have to do is bring their Art Journal and I will be supplying the rest of the supplies. I'm really looking forward to it.

"The Cover" Sketchbook Project 2011

I spent the day yesterday working on the front and back cover of my sketchbook.

The front Cover: I decided to use images from inside the book to make a mosaic medallion. I surrounded the images with puff paint to secure them. This way there is no way they can peel off.

The Back Cover: I wanted to create a jewel type effect on back cover. I glued gold buttons with a tile adhesive (the strongest glue I've come across) there is no chance of these buttons moving from the cover no matter how many times it's flipped through. I also placed a few coins between the buttons (heads side up) to continue the face in the crowd theme.

Now I need to say good-bye to my sketchbook as it will make it's way to the Brooklyn Art Library. The images within will be seen again soon. I have some brushes in the making as well as a few other artsy projects(O:

I Totally Splurged at Barnes & Noble!!

The other night I felt the need to escape for an hour to Barnes & Noble and I totally splurged on some new inspirational books and magazines. If you haven't seen these they are all filled with eye candy . The ideas and techniques offered in these are really incredible. I am now preparing to teach my students all the different Art Techniques in Art Journaling. I have quite a bit of knowledge about Art Journaling under my belt but my research continues. I have my brand new Moleskin Journal and fresh new project(O: I will be filling this one with different techniques and tools to use in Art Journaling. Then in January 2011 I will begin my Friday afternoon Art Journaling classes. I'm really looking forward to this new project and journey as Art journaling has become quiet a passion for me.

I sit here on my patio this morning with one eye on my laptop and one eye on my tiny little Stella (12 wk old Beagle puppy just 5lbs) I worry because there have been the most enormous hawks swooping through our back yard and around our cul de sac lately. I am just terrified that one of them will pick up my baby on it's way through. Apparently that has been happening so I have to keep an extra eye on her at all times when she's outside.
I have posted a few photos today of my next two page spread. These are a little different. I chose not to pattern their faces on these, instead I used graphite for some light shadowing and left the patterns for the hair and background. There is something about the colors in these that I like. Ordinarily I wouldn't be using grays, whites and yellows but I quite like this color combo(O: Have a great Sunday everyone!!

Thanks again everyone for all the feedback on my sketchbook. I'm telling you it's what's keeping me going here. Normally I would be ready to start something new by now but I'm almost finished. I have so many upcoming projects I am going to need to focus on starting in August and then the kids are back in school so I really must finish this first.
This two page spread has been done with sharpie paint pens, archival ink and then I made their snazzy wigs with collage paper. I think they look like they're from the 70's. There are 3 faces to find today. I'm planning to make a few things with some of the images from this sketchbook like hairbrushes, pendants and possibly a few wall mirrors. With this being a sketchbook I will be giving away when it's complete I'm going to do a photo collage using all these images. Imaging finding all the faces in the crowd then(O:

Here are pages 16 & 17 for this morning. I decided to use watercolors on the faces of these two and then I used acrylic paints in similar more bold colors on the outer pattern. I was pleased with these ones because I really wanted to have a softer look on their faces.

Thank you to everyone who has been commenting on my pages. As I said when I started this journey of the Sketchbook Project, this will be my first sketchbook filled from cover to cover. At 38 years old it's about time I did that. I am trying to stay focused on this sketchbook and the only way I can is if I do it daily until it's finished. I was the child in school who did her report on the first day so it would be finished and then I could move on to other things. That is my mission here, if I stay on schedule I will be finished one week from today. My kids have soccer camp this week so I am really buckling down.

I'm moving right along here with my sketchbook project(O: I'm afraid that if I stop I won't pick it up again. I'm working on these pages with all kinds of mediums, it keeps it interesting for me and that way the possibilities are endless!Some of the pages have collage, watercolors, acrylics, Prisma markers, archival ink, graphite, paint pens and gel pens. I've had to glue three pages together to get the thickness I need in order to use such a variety of mediums.

This is the first page of my Sketchbook Project 2011. I’m really excited about this opportunity. There is a link on my side column that has all the details but basically when you sign up they send you a sketchbook to fill however you want. They do give you themes to pick from.
My theme is: “Face in the crowd”
I’m doing my own take on that theme by crowding my faces with all sorts of flowers and patterns.
Once you pick your theme and fill your journal you send it back to the Brooklyn Art Library where it will live permanently apart from the tour it will be taking in 2011. Every sketchbook will have a bar code on the back which will enable them to email you every time someone looks through your journal. How cool is that?! Sketchbook Project 2011 will have a tour starting in March 2011 where all the journals submitted for this project will go on tour just like a concert to major cities libraries where people can look through your sketchbook. There are about 40 pages in this little journal so I figure if I do one page a day I may be finished by the end of summer. Hmmmm 1 a day………I think I can handle that!! I have to think of it that way or it’s a little overwhelming.

I decided to "go with the ribbons" and make them even more boutique style than before(O: They are pretty cool hair brushes if I may say so myself, not only are they goddess hair brushes but they are a really good hair brush too. The kind you can really brush your hair with!! Each one is one of a kind and full of vibrant colors and details. The embellishments vary with each piece making each one a unique yet practical piece of art. I was busy in the studio yesterday finishing them up because I just couldn't wait to see what they'd turn out like and then last night I went on to list them in my Etsy Shop for just $24.00.

"Goddess Hair Brushes"

Here's a peek at some Daisydoll Goddess Hair Brushes I've been working on. They still need a few finishing touches but will be available on Etsy by the end of the week. I took some big "Conair" paddle hair brushes and decoupaged my images on them. Then I surrounded each image with an assortment of beads, sequence and a few pearls of puff paint. Once the embellishments were dry I poured on a two part resin to secure the image and beads which also gave it a nice shiny gloss! I'm contemplating whether or not to wrap the brush handles with ribbon.....what do you think?

After spending the day yesterday working on these hair brushes I'm having Art Journal withdrawals so I must do some work in a journal today!! Have a great Tuesday(O:

Postcards of Daisydolls Goddesses

My postcards are in!!!
After completing a series of eight paintings I decided to make a collection of postcards by using the images. This is a set of the eight different images on postcards. The front of each postcard has a colorful image of one of my original paintings. The back of each postcard has the same image faded in black and white where you can write your note. These also make wonderful gift cards, recipe cards or maybe you’d like to frame them as a series of prints. They measure 5 ½” X 4 ¼”. I am really pleased with the quality of these postcards!

I made some progress yesterday and I am totally sucked in. This is the type of project I don't seem to want to stop working on until it's done but life keeps getting in the way. It's scary but I could probably work around the clock, who needs sleep right? Well as you know we all do so I had to quit for the night and go to bed. I've got the base color down and a few details. There will be many more details to come so stay tuned....

Oh and the image of the doll standing in the doorway is a photo of one of my dolls from earlier in the year. I was so excited when I came across the photo yesterday! I thought it would be perfect to place on the front of the caravan as if she were standing at the doorway ready to invite some friends in. O.K. "Daisydolls Gypsy Caravan"

I decided to try something new after coming across some beautiful photos of gypsy caravans. I think I may have been a gypsy in my past life because I am so drawn to them. This may trigger a slight name change for my blog. These caravans make me smile. Stay tuned for the transformation of this new project. These are a few photos of the before stages. I created it from a few bird houses, tongue depressors, and a few wood blocks for the step. I also added a few wooden flower pots and a piece of white poster board for the roof to cover the space in between the two bird houses. Can you see my vision, do you have any idea what I'm going to do to this unfinished wood? It's time to paint and embellish this tiny gypsy caravan. Now this is going to be fun!!!

It's about 6:20am and I'm sitting outside on my patio with my laptop with a hot cup of tea listening to the birds chirp. This has to be the most peaceful time of day. There is a soft breeze which I haven't felt for weeks because it has been SO hot...... Now that you can picture my setting I will get to my morning post(O:
Years ago I used to paint with dots 90 percent of the time so I thought I'd bring back my old style for a page in my new face journal. It's fun to see how many different ways I can use these faces from my 8 painting series. Some of these faces will not even look like faces after I embellish them. Those of you who know my work will know there is a face in there somewhere. First time viewers.... well they may just think it's an abstract painting with patterns and words. This is a new page I've finished showing the progression (in a backwards scroll)of the detail as I went along. As you scroll down each photo will show less and less detail from the finished page. This is also the first piece in my new little studio nook. I actually do like being in the kitchen, it's nice to be where all the action is. Being a Mom with two girls, I too can block out noises when I need to. Happy Monday everyone!

Back to a Tiny Studio Again

It's funny how my girls talk me into things and I find myself uprooting my belongings to make them happy. My eight year old Emma Grace has been complaining for the past week how she wants to have her own room. This was after complaining she wanted to share a room less than a year ago. I do understand they are getting older and want their privacy..... The problem with this is that when she moved into Zoe's room I wiggled my way into her old bedroom and took it over for my nice a big, very pink studio(O: Not anymore. Before I was in Emma Grace's (old, soon to be new again) room I was in the closet under the stairs but after another brainstorm I found myself another nook in the house to make my own. It is an extra closet in our kitchen. I took the doors off and got out my paintbrush and after about a million trips up and down the stairs I managed to bring my desk and all my art supplies down and fit them into this nook in the kitchen. The nice thing is it is in the kitchen so I can probably spend even more time in there and I also have the kitchen table to work on for my bigger projects. One day we will have a bigger house and I will have a whole room to myself with sun pouring through the windows. One day!!! For now I wanted to share my new space with you. This was my creative project for Saturday.

After finishing my series of 8 paintings (while photographing them all along the way), I decided to have a photo book made through "Shutterfly" so I could do it all over again. This time I will be embellishing these faces in a much smaller 8" X 8" version. I took each image and blew them up on the pages in two different stages. Now I can fill them with daily thoughts or fill them with patterns. This is going to be a fun traveling journal. My girls can swim and I can doodle. They can go to music lessons and I can doodle. I mean really you have to keep Mom happy ya know(O: The nice thing is I can also use these images to make things. I have one idea of something I want to make that I have never tried before. It may be a week or two but it will be posted soon. There will be all kinds of goodies in my Etsy shop once I iron out the kinks of my ideas. Stay tuned...

Now I can make fun journals of all sizes with papers as thick as I want(O: This is the first one I've made with my new toys for designing my daisydolls in rows. I was talking to a friend of mine about how many journals we each have and really there should be a journal for every mood. Especially when an artist such as myself has about a zillion different styles of painting and drawing. This way they can be somewhat organized. That's the Capricorn in me always wanting to be more organized than I actually am. I guess now that I have my new little toys to make journals I will end up having an entire bookshelf one day of them all each filled with different styles of doodles or paintings I've spent my life working on. I may not be a financially rich artist but no one will ever be able to say that I don't have anything to show for my life's work. Some of us are the hardest working artists creating art everyday, it's what we love.

"Daydream Goddess" #6 of 8 series

"Daydream Goddess" These paintings measure a 2 ft X 2 ft perfect square.
She just had the look of a daydreamer to me. This is much how I spent my days in school..... just dreaming of my next project once I got my homework out of the way. After High School when I went to the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston, MA it gave me the opportunity to dabble in just about every medium possible. The only academic was art history. This was when the daydreams in class stopped. I was thoroughly interested and focused on the studio art being taught. Now I just daydream as part of my constant brainstorm. I believe an artists mind never rests because every word and vision is a constant feed of new inspiration.

"African Goddess" #5 of 8 series

Here she is.... my "African Goddess". I actually got quite a lot done this weekend. It helps when my husband has all kinds of important sporting events to watch on the weekends like the US Open and the Soccer of course. It's doodle land for me and my girls. My girls actually started pieces of their own this weekend as well. We were doodle happy with our paint pens trying to stay cool inside. It's been 94 everyday for the past few weeks so unless we are at the pool we are inside making art, just as happy as can be(O: We did visit with my parents for Father's Day which was a family packed afternoon...... always a blast!! I hope everyone had a wonderful Father's Day weekend(O:

I'm glad I've taken photos of these paintings in stages because I actually like the last two stages equally. This way I can make some prints of both versions. There are a few other goodies I plan to make using these images so stay tuned(O: I just have 3 more paintings to embellish with details until this series is complete then I will focus on the boutique style products I plan to create with the images.

I decided to tone down the dramatic colors in this daisydolls face and I quite like it. It's all the same white scroll pattern but you can still see the tones of paint behind it. Now onto #5 hmmmm what will she be like? Happy Father's Day to all the greatest Dad's out there(O:

This series of 8 paintings has been so much fun for me. It was nice to work on the 8 pieces to get them to this stage because the embellishing with intricate details just puts me in a zone.
