Watercolor Painting Over Magazine Image - Journal page

These few pages show a watercolor technique where I painted over the top of a magazine image. The photos above show my process. I found I had to layer the watercolors to get the effect I wanted. For the first few strokes of my brush the color actually wanted to repel off the page but as the page became saturated with moisture the colors began to adhere to the image. "Making Your Own Stamps"

I made a new stamp over the weekend, my very first handmade stamp. After this handmade stamp was made I created a border around my two page journal spread. These photos show the process in making this stamp. I started by using some Sculpey clay I just happened to have in my studio. The only problem with using clay is that the stamp doesn't bend with the surface you are working on so I found myself pressing against the paper behind it with my hand to ensure the ink was leaving the stamp I intended it to. I will be experimenting with different material for making stamps and will share with you each time I do. Have a great day everyone!!

"Parasol's & Pink + Orange Brick Swirls"

These photos show my process in creating these four journal pages. I was really happy with these. I don't know if it's the colors or their faces but these types of pages are pleasing to my eyes! In these pages I introduced a few different Art Journal techniques. The first one is the circle cut out which many of you have see me do in my last journal. I wanted to create a page like this to show my students. Immediately when I cut that hole the focus turns to all four pages instead of two. It's definitely more challenging and takes a little more planning. I also showed the way you can take piece of images from magazines and transform them into something totally different like the parasols I created from a flower and a random pattern I found in a magazine. Lastly I showed how the images on the different pages can be very different even when the faces are exactly the same.
