Watercolor Painting Over Magazine Image - Journal page

These few pages show a watercolor technique where I painted over the top of a magazine image. The photos above show my process. I found I had to layer the watercolors to get the effect I wanted. For the first few strokes of my brush the color actually wanted to repel off the page but as the page became saturated with moisture the colors began to adhere to the image. I hope everyone has a wonderful day today, thank you for all the feedback on my video yesterday!!

  3. You are a wealth of fantastic ideas. Also, you are very generous to share!

I really like the idea of placing water colors over the page. I always draw and paint each of my images of women's faces and know I have learned an easier way for journaling.

    Thank you!

    Smiles,
    Cheryl

  4. Another gorgeous spread in such a beautiful journal! Love the techniques used ~~ the pink lines with yellow dots between them, the magazine image for a base, the design on her face...and the popcorn is a great touch. Hope you and the girls enjoyed the 3D movie! Have you had a chance to browse through several of Dyan Reaveley's blog posts yet??? She doesn't post journal pages every post (like I wish she did, ;0), but the pages she does post are great inspiration for us, . . . and her accent is wonderful, isn't it? Happy Creating, Rebecca!!!

  9. Great page once again Rebecca. How did you adhere the magazine picture to the page? Did it not get mucked up with the watercolor? I have used this technique once but I put Gesso over top of it first. I need to get some clear Gesso as I think it would work much better - I used white and then painted over top of it. I love movies too! We don't have cable so we have many DVD's.
Hope you and your girls enjoy Despicable me.

  12. I started my face painting using a similar technique. I covered the face with gesso then painted over with acrylics or oil pastels. It really helped me get to grips with shading. I love how you have incorporated your beautiful designs onto her face - she is stunning :)

India

Meet India, she is such a treasure! I made from a tea cup I brought back from India last year. She sits 6 1/2 inches tall. The base she sits on is a beautiful square plate I found in Crate & Barrel that matched the tea cup perfectly. India has been embellished with fabrics I also brought back with me. Her hair is a combination of wool and acrylic fibers and she is jeweled with brass accents. India has henna patterns on the souls of her feet and around the tops of her arms and sits in this peaceful position as she meditates. She's waiting to sit in your home and bring you peace.
