"Making Your Own Stamps"
I made a new stamp over the weekend, my very first handmade stamp. After this handmade stamp was made I created a border around my two page journal spread. These photos show the process in making this stamp. I started by using some Sculpey clay I just happened to have in my studio. The only problem with using clay is that the stamp doesn't bend with the surface you are working on so I found myself pressing against the paper behind it with my hand to ensure the ink was leaving the stamp I intended it to. I will be experimenting with different material for making stamps and will share with you each time I do. Have a great day everyone!!

Love the new stamp! I've never made one, but it definitely makes me want to try it. Absolutely wonderful journal pages. Makes me wish they were mine. :)
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing how you create other stamps with different materials and also your assessment of them.
ReplyDeleteThe journal pages are so lush, vibrant and muted. Not descriptive words that you usually use in the same context but somehow those are the adjectives that come to mind when I viewed your wonderful pages.
What a great hand-made stamp, Rebeccca!!! You are just SOOO creative. Great idea...and I just happened to come home with some clay from Lisa Pavelka so I have what I need to try your technique. Thanks for sharing! . . . and thank you, and Emma, for so kindly welcoming me home. It warmed my heart to know that I was missed, ;). Wishing you the bestest of days!
ReplyDeleteGet a big rubber eraser and carve it with an exacto.
ReplyDeleteRebecca, I like the design of the stamp. I have never made one but my sister does. She also uses erasers. One of the other things she uses is linoleum blocks, she carves into wood also.
ReplyDeleteI bought a moleskin journal with watercolor paper pages yesterday. I am just about ready to get started.
I never thought of making a stamp with sculpy. I have always carved them-not very well I might add. Good idea.
ReplyDeleteRebecca;
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I have seen a stamp made with clay! Great idea. I have seen stamps made with potatoes and erasers, corks, and foam. This is really cool. So I am assuming the clay hardens right? I watched your video and LOVE IT! Your helper did a fabulous job! Your studio looks like a very blissful place to create your art! And finally, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that 4 page spread you created!
Hugs to you, I hope you are having a wonderful week.
I never knew about this technique !! I should try making my stamps, too ! Thanks so much for sharing, Rebecca and BEAUTIFUL PAGES !
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! I wouldn't have thought of using polymer clay to make a stamp, but your effort is so successful and clever! Gorgeous pages, Rebecca! Hugs, Terri xoxo
