"Odd Faces" Journal Cover Designs

I've been brainstorming about not only designing the covers of journals but actually making journal covers that can slip on and off. My covers could be used on all kinds of books like journals, date books, cook books, novels etc... I'm not sure of my materials yet but the wheels are turning. I do know that I want my designs on them!! I could seriously spend millions of dollars each year just on Art supplies. I can't get enough and I just adore trips to Art Supply Shops & Hardware stores (my brain thinks of all kinds of things you could do with things in a Hardware store, I'm a little weird)!! Each idea requires new supplies ya know, I'll keep you posted(O:

  1. I'm with you on this one--I love shopping for art supplies, AND at flea markets--the vintage hardware you can find there!! In a couple of weeks we're visiting son, and he lives in Manhatten--I'm very excited, BUT also there's a Dick Blick store there--can't wait.

Okay, I also wanted to answer your question. I put them on the wood with gel medium and then, (and I know alot of artists would scold me) I put matte mod podge over them. I do this, because I always like to add a little black paint around the edges with my fingers, and if I put too much on, the mod podge has a bit of a resist to it, so it's easy to wipe off the paint if I put too much on. AND THEN when I'm all done, I'll seal it--with these, I've been using gloss varnish. They look better to me with a shine on them. Hope this helps. I think these would look great with your paintings. The wood gives a bit of a shabby look, which is what people love.

  2. Okay, if you're weird, then so am I! DO you know how many times I have people here in blogland tell me this!

you see, you are not the only one to looks around at the hardware store and thinks things like, oh that would be so cool wrapped around this...for a sculpture...all those interesting materials...nuts, bolds...metal, shiney objects! etc....

so, no worries...we can be weird together! hehe

i think your removable journal/book covers is a great idea! you could do it all on a stitched fabric cover! yes? no?

    these look great!
    ciao bella

Happy Valentines Day!!

Happy Valentines Day!!
These are little Valentines Mice made out of little white stones. I stuck felt hearts on them and then embelished them with bows and eyes. This is a fun Valentines Day craft for my daughter's second grade class!

India

Meet India, she is such a treasure! I made from a tea cup I brought back from India last year. She sits 6 1/2 inches tall. The base she sits on is a beautiful square plate I found in Crate & Barrel that matched the tea cup perfectly. India has been embellished with fabrics I also brought back with me. Her hair is a combination of wool and acrylic fibers and she is jeweled with brass accents. India has henna patterns on the souls of her feet and around the tops of her arms and sits in this peaceful position as she meditates. She's waiting to sit in your home and bring you peace.
