"The Cover" Sketchbook Project 2011

I spent the day yesterday working on the front and back cover of my sketchbook.

The front Cover: I decided to use images from inside the book to make a mosaic medallion. I surrounded the images with puff paint to secure them. This way there is no way they can peel off.

The Back Cover: I wanted to create a jewel type effect on back cover. I glued gold buttons with a tile adhesive (the strongest glue I've come across) there is no chance of these buttons moving from the cover no matter how many times it's flipped through. I also placed a few coins between the buttons (heads side up) to continue the face in the crowd theme.

Now I need to say good-bye to my sketchbook as it will make it's way to the Brooklyn Art Library. The images within will be seen again soon. I have some brushes in the making as well as a few other artsy projects(O:

  13. Hi Rebecca,
    Wow, I'm sure you're very proud of this journal. It's just FABulous!

    I'm wondering when you art with doodles in faces, do you start with the face or your doodles? Probably a funny question for such an artsy gal!
    Happy creating,
    Hugs,
    Anna

  14. That is the perfect ending to an awesome project! but since it's the cover, maybe I should call it the perfect beginning? hehee...

    I love that you put a small sample of all the faces in the book on the front! that was clever, but then again, this is YOU I'm talking about here, so I expect nothing short of amazing and be-dazzling!

  17. Rebecca;
    I can't believe you have to send it off now!!!! I think you would be able to auction it off because it is soooooo beautiful. I Love both the front cover and the back, you chose the perfect medallion buttons! I wish I was receiving this! You are such an inspiration and I am sure that everyone who gets the opportunity to view your journal will be truly blessed because of it!

India

Meet India, she is such a treasure! I made from a tea cup I brought back from India last year. She sits 6 1/2 inches tall. The base she sits on is a beautiful square plate I found in Crate & Barrel that matched the tea cup perfectly. India has been embellished with fabrics I also brought back with me. Her hair is a combination of wool and acrylic fibers and she is jeweled with brass accents. India has henna patterns on the souls of her feet and around the tops of her arms and sits in this peaceful position as she meditates. She's waiting to sit in your home and bring you peace.
